Born in Northern California, Dr Chien moved to and grew up in Taipei, Taiwan and ultimately came back to the US to earn both her undergraduate and medical degrees at Stanford University. Her orthopedic surgical residency was completed at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program where she served in numerous leadership roles in medical education. She completed her orthopedic subspecialty fellowship in Foot and Ankle at the Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Chien was recognized for her leadership throughout her residency program, and received the Resident Executive Committee Award from the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program (HCORP) for her performance. She also participated in leadership roles in national organizations.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Chien is active in academic research, and has published numerous articles and book chapters discussing ankle fractures, the management of diabetic feet, infection prevention, and total ankle replacement. Her current research focuses on advanced techniques in the reconstruction of the foot and ankle, and she aims to continue her research on implants that improve patient outcomes and save costs across the healthcare system.
Dr. Chien is an active member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society (RJOS), and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
Dr. Chien enjoys global exchange in orthopedic foot and surgery and has traveled internationally to Colombia, Malawi, and India to participate in teaching and performing surgeries. Dr. Chien speaks fluent Chinese in addition to English, and is conversational in Spanish. With her upbringing abroad and exposure to other parts of the world, she is passionate about learning different cultures and languages and connecting with a diverse patient population in and around New York.
